Quadruped mammals of the family Bovine, cattle include cows, steers, bulls, and oxen. Their still disputed domestication was purported to be about 10,000 years ago, which was before other animals. Identified by prehistoric paintings showing similarities, cows evolved from the now extinct aurochs. Domestic cows remnants date back to 6500 B.C. in Turkey and Near East. Early cattle provided meat, milk, and draft labor. Eventually, horses and machinery replaced draft animals; today, they provide meat or dairy products.
