Sheep, chickens, geese, cows, horses, pigs, dogs and cats are often reported as farm animals. However, others such as alpacas, llamas, bisons, reindeer, elk, pheasants, ostriches, emus, peacocks, and fish are farmed also. Farm animals are domesticated (reared on properties for livestock or commercial product). Knowing the legal definition of farm breeds and any federal, state, or county laws concerning limitation, humane treatment, disposal, and vaccination from local agriculture, county extension office, or veterinarian is valuable for every owner.
