Intriguingly unusual, non-indigenous animals so different as to be excitingly odd are considered exotic animals. Many different breeds like kangaroos, iguanas, parrots, monkeys, camels, alpacas, lynxes, foxes, or sugar gliders are exotic. Owning exotic pets may be enticing, especially as a status symbol, however, potentially negative aspects exist. Not realizing the very specialized, costly, difficult diet and nurturing frequently leads to abandonment. High costs of rare exotics encourage poachers to over hunt, endangering their existence.
